I have always had trouble describing the type of music I listen too. I usually say something like “Uh. . . Vocaloid and uh Visual Kei. . . and Ali Project, whatever genre that is. . . and random geeky anime related stuff. . .” Elegant right? Anyways, quite bit of the music I listen to I find really inspiring when I design Lolita clothing, and I thought I would spotlight a couple of those songs.
Nana Kitade’s Cover of “Lum no Love song”
Of course, the thing I find most inspiring is bound to the video. Her outfit is so cute! And that carousel. . . But I also love the song. It is so cheerful and cutesy. I listen to it a lot when designing sweet lolita, and the energetic feel to it motivates me to get up and sew!
Neko Kanochi – Life of Lies
Once again, the dress in the picture is absolutely lovely. This song was originally sung by Luka Megurine (the Vocaloid) but was covered by one of my favorite UTAU’s Neko Kanochi. This song has a lovely, circus-y feel about it and makes me think of autumn. I love to listen to this song when designing either classic or gothic lolita.
Alice of Human Sacrifice
A rather well known Vocaloid song, it is extremely amazing. Creepy yet elegant, it combines horror with Alice in Wonderland. Of course I listen to it while designing Gothic Lolita. This song has a special place in my heart, for it was one of the songs that started my obsession with creepy things and made me into the person I am today.
Miku – Mrs. Pumpkin’s Comical Dream
Another Vocaloid song (Yes, I am obsessed) This song has a lot of different interpretations and meanings. Once again a very gothic and halloweenish song (I give you one guess my favorite holiday!) It seems a lot of the designs I make while listening to this, end up rather twisted. Which I love.
In order to keep the post under control, I’ll end with a quick list of some other songs that inspire me.
- Trick and Treat by Kaito, Gakupo and Len/Rin and Len
- Dark Woods Circus by Kaito, Rin and Len and Meiko
- Music Box of Time by Luka
- Alice in Dreamland by Kaito
- Several of the Rozen Maiden and Higurashi OSTs
- Anything by Moi dis Mois
- Anything by Ali Project
- Etc…

Yes, Trick and Treat is amazing. In fact it was the first creepy Vocaloid song I ever heard. Without it I would probably be very different than who I am today. xD

Oh! Alice of Human Sacrifice is one of my favourite Vocaloid songs. And Mrs. Pumpkin’s Comical Dream is so very… Creepily cute… xD
Have you heard Paradichlorobenzene and Anti-chlorobenzene? (By Len and Rin, respectively) They are quite creepy as well, but I can’t help but love them…
